Who we are

We are a school of programming and robotics for children and teenagers. Our mission is to teach programming to grades 0 to 12. We envisage the future of our children where basic coding is a universal skill expected of everyone at a certain basic level. We believe that learning coding will help children acquire relevant digital literacy and equip them with vital skills that will open up many more career opportunities during this Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Background

Kids Coder Lab was founded by John and Magdalena Mulenga. We first met at a summer camp in Ohio, USA, where we worked as trained counsellors of children with special needs including autism spectrum. This was our first experience as educators and we found working with children with special needs and autism both inspiring and rewarding. It is then that we fell in love with the value of inclusiveness in children’s education, which assumes participation in the learning process of all children, regardless of their background or learning abilities.

Fast forward, we are now married with three children and settled in Warsaw, Poland. We have both acquired diverse professional experiences over the years—Magda in digital marketing and John in business academia. We have a keen interest in trending technologies and are excited about the vast opportunities that they bring. Watching our respective industries being challenged, disrupted and transformed by accelerated digitalization, we could not help but join the movement of this technological advancement. But what fun would it be to join the digitalisation movement without the value of inclusivity, especially for children?

We value inclusiveness in children’s education, which allows for classroom diversity that nurtures self-esteem and respect in all students.

We created a programming school for children and teenagers because we have come to realise that in the current marketplace and in the years to come coding will not only be trendy but it will also become an essential eye-opening skill. By teaching children coding we prepare and equip them with skills and information they need to widen their future opportunities and prospects, regardless of their career paths. And we give them self-confidence, independence and a lifelong learning attitude.

By teaching children coding we do not only widen their future opportunities, we also build their confidence and independence.

Our school is truly for every child and teenager. This is because we believe that everyone can learn, at their own pace, according to their own learning abilities. Bringing different children into the classroom makes the learning experience richer and even more educational. Including all children, regardless of their background, adds value.
