Course description
The course focuses on understanding programming concepts, practising analytical skills and enhancing English knowledge and vocabulary. First students learn the coding concepts off-screen through unplugged activities such as coding puzzles and quizzes. Students apply the coding concepts they have learned – sequencing, conditional logic, and repetitions using loops – on-screen, using a visual programming language which lets them create programs by manipulating program elements graphically. They design animated characters, events, scenes, and experiment with math and art, all in the JavaScript environment. They practise troubleshooting and debugging simple programs. The instructions for all activities are given in English. After completing this course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of visual programming and will be more fluent in English.
After course completion students are able to:
- Create cartoon stories, design and build small games
- Apply programming concepts to build their own games
- Design characters with multiple animation sequences
- Write interactive stories with multiple scenes
- Make an image using drawing primitives
- Program special effects and explosions
- Troubleshoot and debug programs
